Family History

Late night, or early morning?  Of course getting embroiled in the family history meant that time passed very quickly engrossed as I was plundering the Dean of Guild Court records and playing around with NLS 'then and now' map features.  I was still awake when R came in which was just as well as she'd left her phone on the cab and there was a bit of search and rescue.  the lovely cab driver delivered it here.  It was nearly 4.30 when I finally made it into bed.

And the next thing it was 9.30!  A diary fail (not mine) has meant tomorrow's lunch date is postponed and a call with #2 son revealed a gardening emergency.  So off to deal with that.  Luckily L was around to help as we created hay out of the long grass and disposed of weeds and chopped back clematis.

With the change to yesterday's plans I popped down to the CopyShop for the choir posters and had a quick look at the buildings I was examining on maps last night, the back of Tweeddale Court.  It was around here that my 3 x gt grandfather the builder Adam Landels had plans approved to build a tenement and then a workshop beside the Relief Chapel, now St Patrick's Cathedral.  That was in 1823/24.  The came the big post Napoleonic Wars financial crash (probably the first 'modern' financial crisis) in 1825/26 and he was bankrupted, becoming labourer living in the Grassmarket until he moved to the New Town as a spirit dealer. 

I need to do some ore work around this.
