To View The City By Night

Budapest: Day 6
A rather eventful bus ride out into the Buda Hills this morning as the traffic was so bad we missed our connection to the Pálvögyi Caves. Knowing the tours left at 15 minutes past every hour and the next bus getting us there at 17 minutes past we decided to walk...uphill, in 30 deg heat, in a rush! We arrived at 13 minutes past to find the last two places on the tour had just been filled! Luckily as they had a sudden influx of visitors they decided to put on an extra tour so we didn’t have to wait the full hour. It was well worth the effort though as the caves were fascinating (extra) and even with the guides limited English and our zero Hungarian we got the gist of how it all formed. The bus journey down was no smoother as we initially missed our bus as we were waiting on the wrong side of the road and then the one we were on broke down half way and we had to walk another 20 minutes to get a bus that was running.

This evening we had booked on a sunset cruise along the Danube which was very pleasant and we finished up with a walk across the Chain Bridge and along the Buda embankment to view the city by night and in particular the Hungarian Parliament building. Fortunately for our very tired feet we found that we had ended up at a metro station that took us all the way back to the apartment as I am not sure either of us could have walked much further.
