The showground

A damp and misty day, with quite a bit of wind. Not the best weather for setting up a showground, but we saw that the tents were up as we passed by this morning. The forecast for tomorrow is slightly better, but not good, which is a shame as for the last few years Dufton Show has had gorgeous weather. If anyone is thinking of visiting the show tomorrow, it might be as well to keep an eye on the weather. The Show will definitely go on and we will probably go down for a while, but it is not at its best in wet weather.

An additional note regarding our visit to V&A Dundee yesterday.
I said we had a great day, but that was more to do with the train journeys, the unexpected blipmeet, Gordon's fascination with the Discovery etc., than it was to do with the actual Museum, with which I was a little disappointed.

I cannot fault its location, both in terms of access from the Railway Station and the city and of course its position on the river. The 2nd floor restaurant has excellent food, ambiance, views and service - faultless. However the ground floor ,which is supposed to be a community space 'A Living Room for the City', is really only a huge reception desk, a shop and a soulless café. The space for meeting and generally sitting around is limited and yet there is a mass of sloping planes against the walls, because of the architectural feature outside. Why these were not used for seating steps I cannot understand. Then the Scottish Design Exhibitions, which is what the whole place is about anyway, are tucked away in a corner. What they have to display is great, but it is so cluttered and you really do not know where to look or which way to go round. And why it all has to be so dark I do not know.

I did not want to be so negative about it, but I did not want anyone getting the wrong idea - that, because we had a great day, the Museum is a fabulous place everyone should visit. The building itself is great, the location is wonderful, wandering beneath it alongside the river is magical, so it is well worth seeing, but I think the inside is disappointing. That is just my opinion, but I have since found this review
