A time for everything

Chased out by the storm!

Friday
Doing some jobs around the house this morning, then waiting for someone to come and pick up some shelves we were selling, so it was mid afternoon before we got out to get some exercise. I fancied going for a swim - the outdoor pool will only be open through the long weekend, but unfortunately the morning sun had largely given way to cloud, and we knew there was the likelihood of storms later on, though the forecast was saying about 7 pm. The pool was very quiet when we got there, and I decided I should start swimming straight away, rather than sitting and reading for a bit first, and it’s a good job I did, since I’d only done 30 of my usual 50 laps, when thunder was heard, and the lifeguards blew their whistles for everyone to get out of the pool! After the initial thunder, all was quiet for a little while, so we continued to sit outside reading, but the clouds were becoming more ominous in one direction, so we decided to retreat indoors., and as I was leaving, I just snapped this shot of the clouds reflected in the pool - it’s not often you get a chance to take a picture with the water so still like that! I had taken my gym stuff with me in case I wasn’t able to swim, so I decided to go and do 30 minutes on the treadmill - and by this time it was pouring down outside!
We have just got back from seeing the British movie Blinded by the Light, about a Pakistani teenager growing up amidst racial and economic tensions in Luton in 1987. He has written journals since he was a boy, and starts writing poetry as a way to escape the intolerance of his hometown and the stubborn traditional views of his father. A classmate introduces him to the music and lyrics of Bruce Springsteen, which give him inspiration to find his own voice and follow his dreams. It was on in our usual small theatre, but being a Friday night, there were actually some other people besides us - on occasion we have been midweek, and had a private, or almost private showing! It’s gone midnight now, so it’s time for bed! Goodnight fellow blippers, and have a good weekend!
