Road less travelled

Late in getting started this morning so decided to walk nearer to home and headed up  Craigower, an old favourite. As ever we were rewarded with great views from the top and today it was clear enough to see all the way to Glencoe.

We then headed down, starting with a small section of woodland which I always find mysterious/fairy tale like. There is a path off the the left and we always wonder where it leads.  Well today we wandered it down it and enjoyed winding our way down until we ended up on the path to Killiekrankie.

It was lovely with the light streaming in and the wonderful mix of rust and green you get in the woods. We also enjoyed spotting different varieties of fungi.

Earlier I finished reading  My Names is Why by Lemn Sissay, a powerful and searing account of the author's experiences of growing up in the care system.  The book is interspersed with extracts from his case file which make for very chilling reading at times. Its not an easy read but  one which is worth reading and which should be read widely. It really brings home why the care system needs to be overhauled and why the current independent care review is so important.
