Hurricane Dorian Update:
The storm is still over the northern islands of the Bahamas. Having slowed down to just a couple of miles per hour and dropping slightly in intensity, it is still delivering extreme punishment to the Islands. Forecasters are fairly certain that the storm will turn to a northerly tract and not make landfall on Florida's coastline. This doesn't mean that folks along our eastern coast are out of danger. They will experience probably Cat 3 or 4 hurricane winds with tropical force winds extending inland as well. Rainfall won't be as bad a threat as the 'dirty' (most rain & wind) side of Dorian is to the east and will remain out in the Atlantic. Probably best case scenario although evacuation of the lowest lying areas such as barrier islands is happening as I type this. Dorian's winds are at 155mph. Dorian is headed up the coast of Florida and will certainly impact the coasts of Georgia and the Carolinas. One positive thing about a slow moving storm is that it allows the much needed time for storm preparation. But it also increases time for anticipation and dread. This one has way overstayed it's welcome!
