A trug of apples to six litres of pink apple juice

Quite a variety of activities. Up at Doreen’s first thing to empty a bedroom of the few remaining bits of furniture and pull up old dusty underlay ready for the carpet fitters.

The fitters were in and out in 20 minutes leaving me free to go for a quick jog around Mote Park.

We have bushels of apples, most of which have a little hole where a grub has crawled out. By dint of rapid, careful knife work the spoilt bits are cut out and the apple ready for juicing. One trug of apples makes 6 litres of juice and takes a couple of hours working together.

Last year we didn’t have many apples, this year we’re inundated. We’ll probably make another two batches which will keep us in apple juice most of the winter. The juice is quite special and a beautiful colour. After its cooled, settled and cleared we bottle it and freeze it ready to enjoy in the winter months.

From apple juicing to walking completed the day - a pleasant stroll around Mote Park by which time we were ready for dinner.
