Basin Starlings

It was such a beautiful day that I decided to take Ollie dog for a walk at Heybridge. The traffic was quite bad through Chelmsford and when we got to the Basin the Daisy Meadow carpark was full. Luckily we got a space near St Georges Field.

As we mounted the sea wall the tide was high and the barge Hydrogen was just leaving laden with sightseers. The area around the sea lock was heaving. As soon as we started walking along the sea wall in the direction of Maldon we left the hubbub behind. The downside of high tide is that the mud, beloved of waders, is covered so we saw very little bird life apart from lots of geese and a huge flock of starlings. The young ones in my image are part way through getting their adult plumage.
