Chatham Dockyard basin

The grand late summer weather continues with temperatures reaching 26c this afternoon.

We had a short walk this morning around the village to the allotment to harvest some vegetables from the weeds for dinner tonight.

After lunch we took Doreen up to St Mary's Island on the peninsula formed by meanders of the River Medway at Chatham. The "Island" used to be part of the Royal Dockyard but fell into disuse in 1984 when the dockyard closed. Since then, the historical part of the Dockyard has become a very popular heritage site while the surrounding land has been redeveloped with housing and a marina.

The dock basins remain, this one is a crowded marina with space for some historic tugs. While some of the houses are very nice, others are less so and the commercial area has little to recommend it - although it is far better than was there before.

I mentioned a blip meet in the Lakes during the week commencing Saturday 21st September. I've had a few replies. Can I suggest either Tuesday 24th or Wednesday 25th September? If you're able to come could you reply on the Blip Meet calendar?
