Reflected glory.

Another glorious September day, much too nice to stay in so we took ourselves off to East Riddlesden Hall (Nat Trust) for a look around and a coffee. Got talking to a very chatty volunteer who eventually sold us some raffle tickets. The Hall is raising money for a ‘Well Being’ garden with Dementia sufferers in mind. Look forward to seeing that, wouldn’t mind winning the £10,000 first prize either.
We then walked the four miles back to Bingley along the Leeds Liverpool canal.
We did a slight detour around Morton Cemetery. It’s of interest particularly as their were first World War German prisoners buried there who had died of influenza in Morton Hospital and subsequently the reason for a very low flying German Zeppelin (reputedly the Hindenburg) to fly low over the cemetery in 1935. There is information about this in Cliffe Castle and an article from the Keighley News here https://www.keighleynews.co.uk/news/11804913.german-officers-attend-funeral-of-comrades-at-morton/
I remember my mother telling me about it and the feeling in Keighley at the time was that they were using it as an excuse to take a recce of the towns engineering works at the same time. The war graves have been moved now and interestingly there are significant numbers of Italian graves with a memorial to the Italian Society in Keighley.

Lovely walking along the canal watching the wild life and canal boats especially going through the Locks at 5 Rise where we also stopped for a cuppa and a sandwich sitting outside in the sun.
The leaves are still pretty green as you can see but there are signs of autumnal colours appearing. Still we can stand any amount of this sunshine.
