Raffles

We're celebrating our wedding anniversary today and what a special day we've had, we've been totally spoilt.  We left Bintan after breakfast and caught the ferry back to Singapore, where we'd booked a room back at the Intercontinental Hotel, and when we checked in they told us that they'd given us a 6 times upgrade to the Ambassador Suite which is on the top floor!  She said it’s because it’s our anniversary, and also because it's Alan's 7th stay in this hotel as an Ambassador Club member.

Our suite is next door to the Presidential Suite, which is occupied but we don't know who by - the Williams F1 team are staying in this hotel and there are a lot of them, so maybe it's a top boss, who knows?  Alan looked out of our window and there was a guy on a harness cleaning the windows of the Presidential Suite, but he didn't come to do ours lol!

The suite comprises an entrance lobby, living/dining room, an office, a huge bedroom with a dressing area and the bathroom - I've added a photo of the lounge to my extras, as well as a wonderful cake that they delivered.  Shortly afterwards, there was a knock at the door and a guy delivered a card that had been signed by the guest relations team wishing us a happy anniversary.

We were going to go out this afternoon, but we decided to stay in and make use of the suite as it's unlikely we'll be staying in anything this grand again.  We shared the cake and a bottle of wine and then got ready to go out for dinner to Curry Culture our favourite Indian, and when we arrived the owner came to greet us and wished us a happy anniversary. Then when Alan went to pay the bill, he came running over and told them to stop - he went to the till, and removed all the food from the bill and said it was on him, we just had to pay for the drinks.  What a lovely man!

We popped back to the hotel to get changed as our next port of call was Raffles for Singapore Slings in the Long Bar - men have to wear long trousers in the main hotel and we couldn't remember if it’d the same in the Long Bar, so Alan put his trousers on anyway, although it turned out that he didn't need to.  When we arrived there was a big queue to get in, it was 10pm and the girl who was monitoring the queue said that last orders is 10.30pm so we may not get in - we decided to wait and we finally got seats at the bar just 5 minutes before last orders, luck has definitely been on our side today!
