Cockatoo Island

I pass Cockatoo Island each day to and from Barangaroo.  Cockatoo Island is now a Unesco World heritage site.  It sits at the junction of the Lane Cove and Parramatta rivers.  Out of sight to the left is a mass of tents.  You can camp there should the desire to camp in the middle of Sydney Harbour take your fancy.

Between 1839 and 1869, Cockatoo Island operated as a convict penal establishment, primarily as a place of secondary punishment for convicts who had re-offended in the colonies.  Between 1857 and 1991it operated as a shipyard and you can see there are still some shipping activities going on there.

Many years ago Trisharooni and a former blipper did a light painting course there and I did one some time ago.  It was great fun.  We also had a blipmeet when the biennale was on.  This has links to the other blippers.  Here is an aerial view of it I blipped once.

Back in Newie now.   I can't say how nice it is to have proper internet.  Note to self to get it sorted for Sydney.
