The Great Divide

I made the mistake of getting sucked in by the proceedings at Parliament today. I felt a responsibility to try to understand where we're at. Once I was sat watching, it was hard to pull away. There is no denying the sense of theatre and the astonishing drama of it all. But the more I watched, the more obvious it became that it's no more than a game. As a member of the electorate, I feel like I'm being played by every side at the moment. The disrespect for language is horrifying. There is no genuine discourse, just endless word games. I found myself being torn between pride in the pageant of it all and despair at the appalling lack of intelligence - and the utter contempt for my own. This is no way to heal division. I ended the day with a headache. And a deepening depression.

The peace and quiet of the library beckons.
