The Edge of the Wold

Brown bird

No Gus photo today. It was dark when I took him out this morning, and then he went on an adventure, travelling with Wifie to work. We weren't sure how he would manage sitting in the car on his own, but he settled down and went to sleep. Then he was invited in to meet some of her colleagues, and as always he made lots of new friends.

As for me, there was just time to snatch a few photos of one of the hen blackbirds waiting in the Gingko for breakfast. This one looks like a young bird, and interestingly she has a pale edge to her tail, not unlike the male who on his own raised a couple of young ones in the garden last year. I am also sure that the dominant female of last year, the Boss, is still with us after several months of absence - a large lady who is tamer than all the others. I am going to try and get photos of all the blackbirds using the garden as I am sure that they are individually identifiable from the little white hairs behind the eye.

It was another post-apocalypse dull day when the sun never shone. This photo was pushing it, hand held on 220mm at 1/10th. But it was the only vaguely presentable image of the day. I am torn as to whether to try and get a compete record of blips in 2013, or just not to worry about those miserable weather days when there is little opportunity to get out in daylight because of work commitments.

ps another bird photo a year ago, worth a look if you have not seen geese whiffling.
