Maxey Pits Open Day

The Langdyke Trust are celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2019, and as part of this were holding a celebratory weekend at two of their sites.  Pete and I had agreed to lead a Bug Hunt at Maxey Pits but we didn't anticipate it being one of the hottest days of the summer, and by the afternoon most of the invertebrates bugs had gone to ground. It was also rather too hot to swing a net about in the completely unshaded grassland, so we didn't have many participants. Despite volunteers being provided with free ice-cream, I started to feel quite unwell and had to retreat to one of the tents for some shade, though Pete braved it until the close at 5 p.m. Despite the extreme conditions a reasonable number of people came along and all seemed to have a good time.
