Quod oculus meus videt

Stepping Stones, Stony Brook

I'd idly pulled out one of my many books on photography last night, England by Mark Denton.  The book is a series of panoramic images across England, all taken on 120 film using a Fuji617 camera.  I do love the 6x17 format, it seems to allow the eye to scan the scene as we would in real life, though it does present compositional challenges.

Well today is Wide Wednesday and the theme is stones, so I made a bee line after an eye test to Cannock Chase and these stepping stones.  I also took the opportunity to take a series of images of different scenes for stitching into panoramic, so much easier these days with the modern tools at our disposal.

The weather was wonderful, after the last few days of rain, although there was a definite autumnal chill in the air.  The bracken in the open areas is just beginning to change colour, though you might be able to see from the extra image that it remains green under the shelter of the large conifers.
