Sgwarnog: In the Field

Mascot

It’s twenty eight years since I last accompanied Brother #2 to a Manchester City game.  Given today’s  result, it may be another twenty eight before he asks me back. I was not a lucky mascot.

With the line to Leeds closed due to flooding, I traveled via Bradford. Scraping past fallen trees on the approach to Hebden Bridge I still arrived in Manchester in good time to meet up and walk up to the Etihad Stadium for the match.

In their last home game City had put eight past Watford with no reply. They have only failed to score at home once in forty five games. So I truly chose a landmark game, as not only did City not score, their opponents Wolves got two.

Missing some key players, City were so stretched they had to give a full league debut to £60M summer signing Cancelo. They were lacking cohesion though, and a well organised Wolves were able to head away every cross and block every shot, while posing a threat on the break. Goalless entering the last ten minutes, City pushed on, but Wolves were finally able to take advantage of lapses at the back and scored two fast break goals to win the game.

So a poor day for City, but at least they haven’t lost four premier league games in a row like my team.

In extras, Brother #2 and I took turns to pose in front of the stadium, although one of us could hardly bear to look.
