Elephant Hawk-Moth Caterpillar

Today was largely concerned with lunch. Janet and I drove out to Leighterton for lunch with my brother and his wife at the Royal Oak - a very good meal indeed, which necessitated quite a lengthy snooze after we got back home.

As we were about to leave - ie, the thirty or so minutes during which I was standing outside waiting for Janet,'s imminent readiness - this little fellow crept across the path at me.

Knowing their propensity for Fuchsia, I picked him up and placed him in one of the nearby bushes, where he had at least as decent a meal as we did. He's the fourth Elephant Hawk-Moth I've seen in our gardens this year... I look forward to seeing the moths later.
