The elusive tokai

I finally saw a tokai. He sings his name, like a cuckoo, only he has a rather gravelly voice. Mind you, this one didn't speak. He was on the roof of the reception area here at Gaia-Oasis, Tejakula, on the palm-fringed shore of the Balinese Sea.?

In Java and Bali there are lots of tokai living in the open wooden roofs of houses, but they are threatened by changing building techniques - closed, European-style ceilings - and by their medicinal properties as perceived by the Chinese, so people are shooting and selling them. Or so I'm told. No wonder they don't like showing themselves. I doubt if anyone will shoot this one - he's only little, about 7 or 8 inches long.
