A view from Jeanneb

Glorious start

to the day.
On Sunday night, despite being very tired, I couldn’t get to sleep. Last night no such problem but I awoke early!
Sitting downstairs with my cup of tea as it started to get light I was lucky to see this flaming orange morning sky.  It lasted quite a while turning pinky purple. I took it again from the back garden illuminating the vicarage (now Rectory) tree.
Of course the day that followed was dull and quite cool but it was dry with the odd bright moment so we set out to walk from Saltaire to Apperley Bridge along they Leeds Liverpool canal.
We’ve done lots of walks along the canal but never the bit beyond Shipley.
Chris was reminiscing about childhood haunts in Shipley as his grandad lived in the area and his dad worked there by the canal. He was speculating which bridge his dad had jumped off to rescue a child who had fallen through the ice. He got a bravery award fir his attempted rescue but sadly the child wasn’t found.
Leaving Shipley the canal is quite rural in its setting with just the occasional business premises and the sewage works nearby but apart from the sound of trains you could be miles from anywhere.
Lots of autumn colour and good reflections en route. After 5.5 mikes we came to Apperley Bridge and went into the George and Dragon for a welcome coffee and sandwich. Of course the bus times weren’t as we would have liked so had quite a wait for a bus to Bradford, the one to Bingley was an even longer wait. At least in Bradford we could get a bus straight home.
Pooped now, nearly fell asleep on the bus, hopefully I will sleep tonight.
