Mistaken Identity

'Edward VIII was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Empire, and Emperor of India from 20 January 1936  until his abdication on 11 December of that year.' (To quote Wikipedia)

Consequently, there are very few pillar boxes in the UK with his monogram on them. (I learned this from 'Antiques Roadshow' on Sunday. It's odd the things that stick in your head.)

This isn't one of them. But I thought for a few moments it was, and whipped out my phone. A rarity on the streets of Shandon!

Closer inspection reveals that this one dates to the reign on Edward VII, and there are plenty of those still in use.

As is this one, and not just by the Post Office. The local mutts must be enthusiastic territory markers.
