A visit to the bank

A rather miserable day today, dull turning to drizzle. Daughter One is here for a couple of days so I enlisted her help to plant a few laurel bushes on the bank above our house, courtesy of our neighbour, whose bank it is.

We get a lot of wind blowing down the side of the house and I hope that in time this will help. Not the easiest job - a steep slope and a ten foot drop isn't the average gardening job. No soil either, so it was a question of surrounding the roots with leaf mould and laying stones over the roots in an attempt to hold the plants down. Time will tell if it was a good idea!!

PS - I've just come back from a friend's garden, barely ten minutes drive away, watching pine martens. He's been feeding them for years, but it was quite amazing to sit in comfort in an open shed, with the surrounding woodland lit up like daylight, and watch pine martens munching peanuts and jam just five feet away! Totally amazing. And no, I didn't take my camera, but will do next time!
