Chatham Island albatross ...

... or Chatham Island mollymawk.

I think that this must be an immature Chatham albatross as the mature adults have a yellow bill.
They are endemic to New Zealand, are uncommon, and breed solely on The Pyramid, which is south of Mangere Island, shown in yesterday’s (and another) Blip. It is a true pelagic species, as it only returns to land to breed. I’ve imported this from the camera to my iPhone camera and then uploaded to Blip - it isn’t as sharp or clear as it was on the camera.

It was such a thrill to see one, from the fishing boat bringing us back to the main Chathams island today, from our 6 days on Pitt Island.

We’re now on the main island for two days before we return to Christchurch.
