The Castle of Mertola

This foreboding looking castle in Mertola, Portugal was originally built in 318 BC. It has a fascinating history which you can read about here if you’re so inclined: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_of_Mertola. It operates now as a museum, but is unfortunately closed on Mondays! We did see a very interesting archeological dig going on outside the castle.

This afternoon we arrived at Tres Marias in the SW Portugal village of Vila Nova DW Milfonte.... we’re here until Thursday when we head into Lisbon to the airport. We’ll be flying home Friday!
