Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Well gosh. Caitlin and I arrived at the Palace Theatre, Shaftsbury Ave, at 13.15, collected our tickets and found our seats for Part One that started at 14.00.   At 17.15 and we cross the road to find somewhere for dinner.  Then 19.30 and the curtain goes up, figuratively speaking, on Part the Second.  22.15 and it's all over.  We fall out of the theatre along with many other overwhelmed people, and about 90 minutes later, after a tube and mainline train experience walked in through my front door.

The special effects are amazing - one wonders how they manage to achieve such visual sleight of hand. Wizard wand cast spells and polyjuice potions before your very eyes.  The staging and use of set is balletic and the music enhances the nuance of every spoken word and gesture. My photo, taken from a considerable distance (we were fourth row of dress circle) shows the stage prior to the start of the performance and is indicative of how very much this show uses lighting and minimal set to suggest an extraordinary sequence of moods and locations.
