A Walk in the Westridge

Having passed Ivy back to mum, we decided to have a wander into the Westridge. This woodland is mainly of beech and hazel with some oak and ask, and stretches across our horizon to the east. Well used by horses and dogwakers, it's a muddy walk in the wet, and it's certainly been wet.

On the way through, we came across so many huge fairy rings of mushrooms, one with a diameter of about ten or more metres! And the fellow in the extra - a Witches Butter fungus, or Yellow Jelly Brain (tremeller mesenterica). Apparently it's edible, but I can't say I felt ready for that.

Still working on the idea it's already November. Despite the wet and the wonderful autumn colours it feels so mild out there, it could be a month ago. Maybe we are in for a mild and very wet winter... but the clever trevors at the Met Office are saying cold, and colder.
