The Gregory Awards

Shelly and I drove down to Seattle with my brother and Sister-in-law to attend the Gregory Awards, Seattle's version of the Academy Awards for live theater. What a kick! Shelly and I didn't sign up for the fancy high-priced party before the awards so we located a lovely Thai restaurant and had dinner together. We arrived at McCaw Hall just as they were opening the doors. We were the first to arrive. We found a seat in the large entry hall and settled to watch the ever changing crowd that slowly and then more quickly arrived. They were a mixture of people, mostly young, dressed to kill, and ready to party. The sound level kept moving up and by the time we all went into the theater there was a party going on. We were there to support my niece Anjelica McMillan who was nominated for best performer in a play along with nine other candidates. We had seen her in the play and knew just how great she was. So we were routing for her. Her award was announced second to last so we spent from 7:30 to 11 pm watching, listening (loud music, loud screaming, loud laughter, loud MCs, and some not quite so loud entertainment.) Before we entered the theater we saw a group of native Americans dressed in finery. We were very happy to see them kick off the show with song and dance. Anjelica did not receive the award, but just being nominated is a big deal and we are and were very proud of her accomplishment.
