Sgwd Yr Eira - Behind the Waterfall

The second day of our weekend in waterfall country.  After watching the Rugby World Cup Final, complete with South ‘Taffricans’ cheering on the opposition as they blazed to glory, we headed up to Afon Mellte to see more waterfalls.

The river was in spate and it was awe inspiring to watch the water thunder over the various waterfalls along the river.  One of the highlights was Sgwyd Yr Eira, where it is possible to walk behind the waterfall.  Having said that, to do so required some agility and a heap of not worrying about getting wet.  We were in appropriate clothing but some of the other intrepid adventurers looked like drowned rats as they appeared from behind the deluge of water.  I wasn’t risking my camera, but used the camera on the phone to capture the inside and out of the experience.

I only took 45 shots all day as the weather closed in and we were in constant heavy rain for most of the day. I’ve added one extra of Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn in the background with a temporary waterfall due to the amount of water coming down into the valley.

We were all wet by the end of the walk, despite waterproofs.  I think we’ll be reproofing the clothes before our next foray in the rain.

After drying off we headed out and had a wonderful meal at the Red Lion at Penderyn, to end a cracking day.
