Lost Souls

This morning I was tackling more difficult memories head on - visiting my parents’ grave.

It is in the village which was their home for 28 years. Most of those years bring back happy memories, but not the last two, nor indeed the 6 years my mother spent in a nearby care home before she died.

Although it is an hour’s drive for me to get there, I can see the churchyard from where I live across the water - with binoculars. Those last 8 years have given me a bit of an aversion to driving over there, so I don’t do it very often.

Today I was meeting friends for lunch near Edinburgh, so I reckoned seeing them after the churchyard visit would get me back on track. The plan worked.
