National Parks Centre, Danby

After lunch at the Castleton tea rooms and a long chat with an older couple who’ve we’ve met in the tea-room before, we headed for the Parks Centre to see the current exhibitions.  Lots of really good stuff from printmakers and also from Wendy Tate and Rob Moore - I particular enjoyed seeing some of Rob’s collograph and collaged works.  I think my overall favourites were some prints that the artist, Theresa Taylor had formed into cylinders which I thought were ceramics when I first saw them. (Her website doesn’t do her any favours)  It takes me back to an earlier experiment of mine when I experimented with forming cylindrical building blocks, but gave up as I wasn’t quite sure how to protect them from damage (I tried perspex but hand cutting didn’t work for me).  These pieces were quite big, in fact too big for the places we have available for display, but they would look great in a contemporary office.
