Craigmarloch

Two church meetings today (some guys have all the luck, eh?) - a mid-morning one in Abronhill in Cumbernauld, the afternoon one in the Community Room at Tesco, Craigmarloch.

Not a lot of time or opportunities for photography. However, today's events do provide me with the chance to pass on my useless fact of the day. Tesco, Craigmarloch, and the area of Cumbernauld known as Craigmarloch aren't actually at Craigmarloch at all. Not the original one at any rate.

The original Craigmarloch, with its farm and former mill, is about a mile to the north, beyond Dullatur and nearer to Kilsyth than Cumbernauld, Craigmarloch Stables were once used for the horses that pulled the barges along the Forth and Clyde Canal. Today's Blip was taken on the Canal towpath near to the ruined stable building.

When the developers were building a new housing estate in the north of Cumbernauld a few years ago, they were less than impressed by the location's name - Auchinbee - and so gave it the name of Craigmarloch, even though that was a mile or two away.

I really should get out more!
