Thank You For the Days ..

The Links

I made an unscheduled trip to Edinburgh this morning, to retrieve a document which I'd left behind last week and which I needed to consult. It was a lovely day and I drove the longer and more scenic route, up the A7, failing to stop and take any pictures as the stopping places all seemed to be in the least attractive spots.

It seemed a bit silly to just pick up the paper and get back in the car to drive home, so I took a little stroll across Bruntsfield Links. Lots of people were out enjoying  the sunshine, and the crisp air (which is another way of saying that it was cold!).

I went to school in this part of town - the building is hidden by trees at the end of this path.  We wandered the Links at lunchtimes, and in the summer lounged on the grass, fully clothed, of course, in school uniform, including ridiculous hat.

Our teachers, mostly maiden ladies approaching retirement, did their best to discourage this  by reminding us that the hollows, which made convenient slopes for sunbathing, were the vestiges of Edinburgh's plague pits.

Showing too much leg earned a rebuke, but going hatless incurred an order mark ....... and who knew what the consequences of that were? We were very biddable.

It all seems a very long time ago. It is a long time ago!
