Exquisite Creatures

We took a spur of the moment bus/train ride to see the "Exquisite Creatures" exhibit at OMSI today.
We saw insects and snakes, feathers and shells, in wonderfully satisfying design. The pieces were stunning, and strangely calming, even reassuring; You could take long, close looks at some of the things we share the world with, arranged into meticulous art. I didn't capture the gorgeous color, but it is there.
I'm listening to Richard Powers' Overstory right now, and loved going from the magnificent, huge trees in his story, to the tiny, incredible things we saw here.
OMSI says: Christopher Marley's revolutionary approach to depicting the relationship between nature and art has been described by The New York Times as comprising “an elegant manifesto meant to nudge us off our couches and easy chairs and out the door."
So, do just that, if you can: go see this show. I hope it comes to your museum soon.
See the Extra, too.
