The Golden Boy King

I booked this trip initially as I got a reasonable deal for a night in London at a hotel we liked and tickets for the final Tutankhamen exhibition to tour outside of Egypt. Our previous two days have been ‘add ons’ as it seemed a shame just to come down for one day, (the company did also offer the tour of the Tower of London we did last night.)
We were not disappointed. At the Saatchi Gallery, just off the Kings Road, so we had to make an early start to get there for our 10.00am timed ticket. A bit of a queue but only to manage the bag checking. It was very well done with excellent lighting of the artefacts and effective information shown both above and below the cases which meant vertically challenged types like myself could read them easily! Films and photographs too especially of the history of the excavations in the early 1920’s.
Lots of the exhibits have not been out of Egypt before and all the mummy decorations are shown except the iconic Death Mask. The blip is of a recreation as Egypt won’t allow the original out of the country. It was still very beautiful and quite small.
I’m down to my last extra so can’t show more but I will do some Flickr albums if you’re interested so that I can do some recycling!
We got off the tube at Westminster before returning to get our bags. As today is 11/11 it seemed appropriate to looks at the poppy tributes in the grounds of Westminster Abbey. An amazing sight. Unfortunately we missed the 2 mins silence today. Sadly some of the building and a good deal of the Palace of Westminster has scaffolding on it and of course the lunatics outside and in have all gone home!
Having collected our bags we had time to kill at St Pancras/Kings Cross so, overlooking three Eurostars I had my first mulled wine and mince pie of the season. A fitting way to round off a great long weekend!
