Real time reportage

After lunch with JDz, we walked together down to the Arno, not because we expected anything unusual, but just because it was a nice stroll. On the bridge, we realised that the water level situation was pretty unusual. This should be evident from this picture of the Ponte Vecchio and this one of more or less the same view as I took today (taken this time last year). JDz said it was much higher than she had ever seen, and in fact the reports say it's the highest it's been for 20 years.

After we got back to the hotel, I saw that a friend who used to live in Florence had posted a link to an Italian report on Facebook Chat!. I was pleased to supplement the report with my real time reportage and supplementary photo, taken within an hour of when the link was posted. Flooding is rare in Florence. Mostly, the memory of flooding is dominated by the disastrous events of 1966. It looks like it won't burst its banks this time, but the amount of water coming down the river was still pretty impressive.

This was one part of a fun, but relatively quiet day. I did a fair amount of editing work, both morning and afternoon, and later this evening we had an aperitivo with MV and PJ.
