Blue sky, blue river

The light this morning along the River Irwell was simply stunning. The more so as we seem to have had weeks of grey, and weeks of rain. I much prefer cold, dry and bright. This was no day for a mono photo.

I liked this shot because of the autumn colour, courtesy of the trees on the right. But I took quite a few others, see extras for two examples.

Walking along the Irwell, the development taking place is quite extraordinary. It starts in the south - the new St John’s Quarter (on the Granada studios site) is emerging on the Manchester bank, with the Slate Yard and New Bailey on the Salford bank. Then the big Affinity Riverside and Riverview apartments in Salford (Riverside is in the blip shot). And finally Embankment and Greengate in Salford.

The Irwell has been a backwater (quite literally) for decades. That is changing fast.
