A day in the life

Torslunda

Öland, where I live at the moment, has 34 churches in use today. The one you see in this blip is Torslunda church, the closest one to where I live and the one chosen for my walk. Torslunda means "Thors grove" and is thought to be a result of Christians taking over a pagan offering site, or other important meeting place, to build a chapel. There are remains from the 11 hundreds in the church walls but the bell tower is from1819. All 34 church towers look different. Thor is of course the norse God of thunder.

We're promised sunshine in the coming weekend. I look forward to it.
