If you can't beat them...

Wood Pigeon (Columba palumbus)

Another damp dark dismal day so resorting to birds again.  Slightly disturbing while taking photos I spotted a female Chaffinch with either Finch Papillomavirus or mites of the Cnemidocoptes group.  Both cause lesions on the legs and feet.   I have some serious sterilizing of the feeders looking at me.

#1  Daughter insists that our Wood Pigeons are so much larger and fatter than her city birds.  I think that is just because at home she sees them at such close quarters (Just outside the window),

A species that is doing well, unlike many.  There are in the region 5,300,000 pairs in the UK.  The average life span is about 3 years with the record being 17 years 8 months 19 days. Despite the name Wood part of their success is they can be found in virtually all habitats  including moors.
