Pooley Bridge

When we woke up on 5th December 2015 we were alarmed at the level of water surrounding our house. We didn't know then just how badly Storm Desmond had affected Cumbria. One of the casualties was the bridge at Pooley Bridge. It was completely destroyed by the volume of water leaving Ullswater via the river Eamont.

Almost 4 years later we went to the village today to see how the building of the new bridge was coming along. It will be great to see the temporary bridge finally replaced by an elegant, permanent structure.

What disapointed us was the complete change of the far bank. The way the land has been built up looks permanent as well. Gone are the trees and gone is the shore where families could park and let their children play in the shallow river and feed the ducks.
