Look Both Ways...

It started raining at about 10am yesterday and hasn't paused since. The weatherman on television was on 'Storm Watch', breathlessly reporting on doppler maps of green, yellow and red blobs stretching in a line from somewhere in the Pacific Ocean to the coast of California...something called an 'atmospheric river'. This term first emerged last year. This weather has been around for as long as I can remember. It used to be called 'rain...heavy at times'. WE're happier to see it than the quail in my blip today.

John is doing his fancy Liberty puzzle for the third time in a row, and I have brought out the Thanksgiving leftovers for the third time in a row. I'm making a pot of posole with the remains of the roast pork shoulder....a definite improvement over turkey soup. No matter what I do with turkey, even simmering it in chicken broth,  it still tastes pretty much like cardboard.

We have decided that the only sensible way to get out of the house is to go to the movies, so I'm posting a picture of part of the covey of quail that live under our olive hedge before we go. Some of them were puffed up beyond recognition and several of them looked like they were having trouble shaking off enough water to get off the ground, but all twelve or so of them eventually jumped off the step and disappeared down toward the lawn....
