Royal Papworth

We went into Cambridge this morning and had coffee in Addenbrookes Costa as we were not sure there was a café in Royal Papworth; there is, a very small Costa.

My husband had an appointment at Royal Papworth at one of the clinics, which has moved across from Addenbrookes. Today’s picture is the outside entrance and not particularly straight. I did take a picture inside, but was asked to delete it as no photography is allowed; this I did. However, I saw someone else taking a picture and no one noticed; they need a sign, which says no photography.

The new Royal Papworth on the Addenbrookes site is an improvement on the old one, which was situated in Papworth Everard. It is very spacious and very impersonal. You sit in a large room with several screens and wait for your name to be called before moving to another waiting area. One thing I noticed was that in the small waiting room, a conversation in one of the rooms behind me could be heard. There also seemed to be a bit of confusion as staff needed to go and find their patient in the large waiting room. Presumably people are not yet familiar with the system or just did not see their name pop up on the screen. This system does mean that you cannot read a book, as you need to constantly watch the screen. I am sure it is a brilliant hospital, but I do not like change, but must get used to it as my husband has another appointment there next week.

After his appointment we went into Cambridge and had lunch, before getting some shopping. We had a walk and then came home, but missed one train by two minutes, as the traffic was heavy.

The temperature at GMT noon today was a barmy twelve degrees Celsius.  There was heavy rain overnight, but when we went to catch the train it had stopped. It stayed dry all day until we were waiting for our train home.
