Blue Monday

Breakfast at Cinnabar. Always good. Always popular. And they are looking very Christmassy.

We walked down the High Street afterwards. Teachers were escorting 200 or so children to Holy Trinity Church for the carol service. Brought back memories.

Lots of sorting out at Mum and Dad’s this morning. Finished off their Christmas cards. Delivered a few, Will post the rest. Now we need to sort out ours !

They have the TV on most of the time. The only time I ever see daytime TV. It was all about the new parliament and the new intake of MP’s. And the recriminations in the Labour Party. I do hope some sense will prevail, this government will need an effective opposition.

In the run up to the election the Guardian’s editor at large Gary Young - who was also brought up in Stevenage - wrote a series of really good articles about the town and its political attitudes. Largely working class, it’s voting has always reflected the national vote. When I was a youngster, it was Labour and Shirley Williams, 2019 it has been held by the Conservatives. If Labour cannot appeal here, it will have lost the plot entirely,
