Sunshine on Christmas Day

I do like a bit of sunshine on Christmas Day. That's one of the main reasons for escaping from Scotland at this time. So we've had an atypical Christmas Day, wandering quite extensively around the streets of Madrid this morning, initially in the search for a coffee and some breakfast and then just to see what we could see. After a short rest back at the hotel, we headed out again and found a local, very local, restaurant where we had something to eat. It had something of a Fawlty Towers quality to it, with us struggling to make ourselves understood. The food was fine, though.

The rest of the day has been pretty quiet - reading and chilling in the room. I'm very tired, having not slept well for a couple of nights, largely for reasons which are self-inflicted.

But we did do something productive this evening. We reviewed 2012 through the medium of our blips and decided that we both agreed that the highlight of 2012 was discovering Shetland. Another highlight was a trip at the end of September/beginning of October that year which took in the Montenegrin coast, Belgrade and the island of Lopud. I also rediscovered, by reviewing my blips, just how many day trips to Brussels I used to take at that time. Horrible. I wouldn't do it now. Tomorrow, let's have a look at 2013. Eventually we can decide what constitutes the highlight, or highlights, of the decade.

To all those celebrating more traditionally, Merry Christmas!
