Wildfowl heaven

A day of two halves.

Morning a continuation of yesterday afternoon. My sister had rung to say Mum and Dad had no heating. Contacted British Gas, and managed to arrange for an engineer to visit. Checked that was happening this morning, and he arrived at the same time as their meal on wheels. So fixed for now. Full marks to British Gas.

Afternoon to Martin Mere. Always good, and our hope of seeing a barn owl was fulfilled. Heard a few pink foots, but didn’t ‘t see any until 20 minutes before the reserve closed. Suddenly they were coming in from all directions to roost in safety on the mere, tens of thousands of very noisy geese filling the sky. They came in very high, glid down, and then deployed their characteristic whiffle to drop fast towards the mere. It was breathtaking. And impossible to photograph. The extra is a section of sky with geese looking like iron filings.
