Hay Tor

We were awakened very early by BB jumping into our bed – that hasn’t happened for a long time.  I had to get up, as he took up far too much room.  He is no longer a wee boy.  I walked down to the beach with my book.  Even though it was early, it was very hot.  I could have stayed longer but wandered back home for breakfast and to make a plan for the day.

We headed to another odd National Trust place, chosen by TT – Bradley Manor a medieval manor house.  We wandered and chatted with the guides and found out about the history of the house as we made our way around.  Like Compton Castle, this is still a house.  BB was given a challenge to spot butterflies.  I wasn’t sure a 13 year old would be up for that, but we picnic-ed in the meadow and he did a bit of spotting with TT’s help.   I sat back and enjoyed the sunshine.

Our next stop was Parke.  We weren’t quite sure what to expect.  We explored the lovely walled garden, before following one of the trails around the estate.  We came back to the café and enjoyed tea and cake.  Being on the edge of Dartmoor, we drove to Widecombe, where the boys had ice cream before a wander around its idyllic setting.   We then drove back onto the moor and walked up Hay Tor.  BB was not keen, but practically ran all the way up!  I followed on behind.

Here are the boys on top of Hay Tor, the extras are an iridescent  beastie at Parke and Dartmoor Ponies on Dartmoor.
