Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Whales!!

As predicted, it blew like stink last night in the night..we didn’t get much sleep. worrying over all the sticks and stuff bouncing off the bedroom skylight, the boat banging at the dock, trees falling (?) , power outages (it didn’t happen!) when would it stop? would we have to stay on the island?   We could.   Then between 5 and 6, it calmed down!  and we left the dock in the daylight at dawn at 8:00..with no wind!   LUCKY.    We were first in line at the Sturdies Bay ferry and were rewarded with a pod of orcas swimming by in Active Pass ...quite far away but still a thrill to see at least 12 I think.  And so many birds and eagles also fishing here. (I think at least 6 eagles in this pix)  I’ve put a couple photos together to try to get it all because here comes our “SalishOrca” ferry… I thought it would be great to have real orcas with it (but they weren’t in the same picture. )  I know it’s too small but better large to see the whales and the birds,   and the lighthouse on Mayne Is. across from Sturdies Bay.    Went the long way, to Maine Is and then back to Tsawwassen, of course looking in the same place for any orcas that might still be there… Not…(put it in the map) however out in the strait there were 2 humpbacks..in the extra..I put the extra views in of back and tail.  All great fun!     Got home in time to unpack and go to Nik’s 4 PM basketball game against a USA highly ranked team in their league who were REALLY good.  One kid is headed to the NBA.    It was fun to watch even tho Nik’s team lost soundly ….but there will be plenty more opportunities for B-ball photos.

And now we are so exhausted I can’t imagine I won’t sleep tonight!
