Wolf Moon

Today's the day ........................ to moon watch

I've actually been watching the moon for a few nights now because it has been so clear in the sky - and it has seemed to be extra big.  It is on its way to being a full moon - which will happen on 10th January.

The first full moon after the December 21 solstice is sometimes known as the Wolf Moon or the Old Moon.  Astronomically speaking, the moon is full at the moment that it is 180 degrees from the sun in its orbit. And on January 10 – like the sun in summer – the moon will follow a high path across the sky.  It will rise north of due east around sunset, will climb highest in the sky around midnight and will set north of due west around sunrise.

I'll be watching it again on the 10th - but just in case that's a night when the skies are cloudy, I thought I would show it to you now.  That way, you can keep a look out for the Wolf Moon yourselves ……………………...
