Cascada de Soria .........

......... not currently cascading at all.

Back blipped on 7th Jan.

We had a very leisurely start to the day, and our Sunday poached eggs.  Finally we got up the energy for a walk, and headed up the valley to the viewpoint optimistically named as the cascades.  I believe there are times when water impressively falls down this rock face,  but today was not one.

We crossed the “ford” at the base of the falls, where an Austrian couple had parked their car in what should have been water, and stopped to chat with them.  The road beyond the falls is unpaved, but this is not clear from Google maps as it is still allocated a number GC505 – it is marked with a no entry sign, “exepto vehícolos autorizados y residentes”.  The Austrian couple had thought that they could drive through the valley to another road.  We walked on up this road for a short distance, before retracing our steps back to the village.

In the valley below is the remains of a lake created by a dam (see extras).  There were a number of butterflies around – I managed to capture a photo of one, and believe it is a rather faded and tatty painted lady.  We were briefly buzzed by a dragonfly, with a bright blue body.  And there are plenty of birds here – they sing, especially early morning and late afternoon.

We had a late lunch at the local restaurant, hoping to get WiFi there, but it too was broken.

Tomorrow we may try to escape the valley, but we may also opt for a local day, trying another local walk.
