Snow arch

Holiday Day 3
Getting reasonably light when we went out at 9.30am to get our snowshoes and try them out. Most of the group hadn't used them before so those of us who had went at the front and helped make the trail.
We didn't go very far from the lodge but did travel through the old woods of the Oulanka National Park where there was plenty of natural sculture as snow had gathered on fallen trees. Down at the river we walked on a frozen ox-bow lake and returned along the river and back for lunch.
Afternoon saw some learing of wilderness skills, including lighting a fire with a spark from a flint (see extra), tried out a fat-bike and refreshed our navigation skills.
It wasn't too cold, about freezing, but a bit breezy and dull.
