Reflected Sunset

Strong winds overnight left the north end of the lake unfrozen which is very unusual for January. I had a vision of contrasting choppy waves and smooth ice with curving lines, but the light was too strong and it didn't work. It was also a bitterly cold -10c and despite looking for other subjects, I failed to get anything worthwhile.

Lesson learned - don't get fixated on one idea.

Later, as the sun set, the sky lit up and, braving the cold, I used the reflected light on the ice to good effect. I liked the contrast between the sunlit area and that in shadow. The boathouse provided a focal point, although, to avoid it being to prominent, I placed it at the edge of the frame.
